A safer community starts with all of us
Classmates is designed to help homeschooling families discover experiences and connect with other parents and carers. We want everyone to feel comfortable, respected and safe while using the community.
Here are a few simple things to keep in mind.
Protect your privacy
Think carefully about the information you share with other members.
Avoid sharing:
-
Your home address
-
Your child's full name
-
Your child's school or regular routine
-
Personal phone numbers
-
Financial information
-
Other information that could identify or locate your family
Your profile and community activity should only contain information you're comfortable sharing with other Classmates members.
Keep children’s information private
Classmates doesn't have child profiles. When adding information about the children you homeschool, we recommend using age or age ranges rather than names or other identifying details.
Connecting with other families
Classmates can help you discover people in your community, but take your time getting to know someone before sharing personal information.
Use your judgement and trust your instincts.
If someone makes you uncomfortable or behaves inappropriately, you can report them to us.
Meeting in person
If you decide to meet another Classmates member, take sensible precautions:
Meet somewhere public
Choose a busy, familiar location such as a museum, park, café or other public venue.
Tell someone you trust
Let a friend or family member know where you're going and who you're meeting.
Take your time
You don't have to meet someone simply because you've connected online.
Keep children supervised
You remain responsible for your children while attending an experience or meeting another family.
Report something that doesn't feel right
If you see behaviour or content that concerns you, please report it.
This could include:
-
Harassment or bullying
-
Inappropriate messages
-
Suspicious behaviour
-
Requests for inappropriate personal information
-
Unsafe or inappropriate content
-
Behaviour that puts another member or child at risk
We may review reports and take action, including removing content or restricting or removing accounts.
Trust your instincts
You don't need to justify feeling uncomfortable.
If something doesn't feel right, step away, block or report the person and seek help from someone you trust.
Our community is built on trust
Be kind. Protect your privacy. Respect other families. And always put children's safety first.
